Adobe Review

Quick Navigation

Adobe CS5, the new "suite". The Adobe Master Tour in Switzerland at the Lenzburg castle in September 2010.

I felt I had to create and "Adobe review" page due to the importance of this company, in the good and in the bad, in todays' world.

Adobe was founded in the Silicon Valley by two former Xerox PARC employees John Warnock and Charles Geschke in December 1982. The name Adobe comes after the creek running near the house of one of the founder in Los Alto, California.

Originally they worked at the idea of the Postcript language. Apple lincesed the software and sparkled the desktop publishing industry.

Through new products and acquisition, Adobe, became what is now considered as one of the main industry in the digital era, notably with its flagship product, Photoshop.

Adobe Photoshop has had in my opinion the most important impact on society and history (along with the Internet) in recent time. We cannot speak of the new digital epoch without Photoshop and Adobe.

Here is a short chronology of their products and acquisitions.

Products Chronology

  • ILLUSTRATOR, 1986 (shipping in 1987)
  • PHOTOSHOP, 1989
  • INDESIGN, 1989
  • PREMIERE, 1991
  • ACROBAT READER, 1993
  • LIGHTROOM, 1997
  • FLASH CATALYST, 2010
