Leonardo da Vinci paintings
Mona Lisa - La Gioconda, 1503-504. 77 x 53 cm, oil on wood. Louvre.
The most famous painting in the world. At the Louvre Museum in Paris.
When I saw it in real life, I remember, I was suprised at the relatively small size of the painting. I don't even dare to enter into explanations of this icon of Art. Instead, this an extensive explanation done by the Louvre museum itself: a wonderful moment !
A picture from the beautiful website www.leonardo3.net (COPYRIGHT LEONARDO3 - ALL RIGHTS RESERVED) which they kindly allowed me to use, show the relative sizes of all Leonardo da Vinci's paintings. The website is another enriching Internet moment because it deals with his complete works and chronology Moreover, it looks at Leonardo as a scientist and inventor (highly recommended)
Adoration of the Magi, 1481-1482, 246 x 243 cm, oil on wood. The painting was never finished. It is known that Raphael studied this painting as well as other works (notably the portraits) by Leonardo and by Michelangelo (both contemporary artists and "competitors") in his Floretine period.
Portrait of Cecilia Gallerani (Lady with an Ermine), ca. 1490–91. Oil on wood. 54.8 x 40.3 cm (21 1/2 x 15 7/8 inches).Czartoryski Museum, Cracow
