Making Your Own Stencils

Making your own stencils can follow a om the easiset way to the professional one, the latter without necesserily buying any expensive material but using a service provider to do the technical part.

THE EASY WAY

Just scissors and papers!

Paper cutting can be used for making stencils as well. And symmetry will help us to cut, well, ...time. (I already mentioned this in my other webpage)

1. It's very simple. Take a piece of paper.
2. Fold it in the middle
3. Draw a semicircle centered on the middle line
4. Draw any silhouette that you like
5. You cut the shape out!
6. That's it!

You can invent more symmetric shapes, for instance, a (Christmas) tree!

...or just be as creative as you like and create not only stencils but cut-outs like these...

THE MIDDLE WAY

Just like working with paper and scissors but now get more precise and use a different material: using stencils foils and an Xacto X3311 N0. 1 Precision Knife With 5 No. 11 Blades .

Stencil foil can be polyesthere, Acetate , mylar or a self-adhesive Frisket very well known when airbrushing.

And cutting out can get sophisticated as well, in a real "Scherenschnitt" fashion

Finally, you can use a proper, professional, Electric Stencil Cutterl to facilitate the task on vinyl or acetate:it's much faster and easier than with an exacto knife!

THE PROFESSIONAL WAY

Choice 1: Buy a Vinyl Cutter , and use it for friends and clients when airbrushing.It will repay for itself quickly.

Choice 2: Buy a stencil Laser cutter . I contacted the manufacturer and it seems they have new products coming. Check them here:

Choice 3: Buy a service an avoid expensive machinery. You don't even need to know vector graphics. PONOKO

Choice 4: START YOUR OWN STENCIL BUSINESS! Not only for making stencils but for marking and engraving tools, knives, jewels, glasses, surgical tools, anything you think of!
